Manuscript Types

A transparent framework for classifying scholarly contributions in Islamic economics, finance, ethical enterprise, digital business, and sustainable development.

The Journal of Visionary Sharia Economy (JOVISHE) welcomes original and methodologically rigorous manuscripts that advance knowledge within its stated Focus and Scope. The journal considers empirical, evidence-synthesis, theoretical, and applied research. Manuscripts are classified according to their primary scholarly contribution, rather than the use of a particular technique or research design.

Scholarly relevance is essential. Studies concerning general business management, digital technology, or software development should establish a substantive connection to Islamic economics and finance, Islamic business ethics, the halal economy, financial inclusion, or sustainable and equitable economic development within the journal's disciplinary remit.

1. Manuscript Categories

The following four categories are considered for publication, subject to editorial screening and peer review.

TYPE 01

Original Research Articles

Report original findings from quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods investigations, including surveys, interviews, econometric modelling, field studies, experiments, and comparative case studies.

Expected structure: Introduction; Literature Review or Theoretical Framework (where appropriate); Methods; Results and Discussion; Conclusion; References.

TYPE 02

Review Articles

Provide a critical synthesis of established and emerging research through systematic reviews, scoping reviews, bibliometric analyses, or well-justified integrative reviews.

Expected structure: Introduction and Review Questions; Review Methodology; Findings or Thematic Synthesis; Discussion; Research Gaps and Implications; Conclusion; References.

TYPE 03

Conceptual and Theoretical Articles

Develop, refine, critically examine, or integrate theoretical frameworks, including Islamic economic thought, maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, institutional perspectives, and ethical or policy concepts.

Expected structure: Introduction and Problem Statement; Conceptual Foundations; Analytical Approach; Theoretical Argument and Critical Discussion; Scholarly Implications; Conclusion; References.

TYPE 04

Applied Innovation and Design-Based Research Articles

Investigate the design, implementation, and evaluation of economic or business innovations, such as digital platforms for MSMEs, Islamic financial services, halal-market systems, or community-enterprise interventions.

Expected structure: Introduction and Research Gap; Related Work; Research and Development Methods; Design or Intervention; Evaluation and Findings; Discussion; Conclusion; References.

The structures above indicate the principal components expected for each category; section headings may be adapted when justified by the study design and the official journal template.

2. Standards Applicable to All Manuscript Types

Originality and contribution. Authors must articulate a clear research question or scholarly problem, establish the relevant gap in knowledge, and explain what the manuscript adds beyond existing literature or practice.

Methodological transparency. Research procedures, data sources, analytical techniques, and limitations must be sufficiently explained to permit scholarly assessment and, where feasible, reproducibility.

Evidence-based interpretation. Conclusions must follow from the analysis, acknowledge limitations, and avoid unsupported causal or generalisable claims.

Responsible research and publication. Appropriate ethics approvals or consent, relevant data-use permissions, authorship contributions, funding disclosures, and declarations of competing interests must be provided where applicable.

Transparent citation practice. Sources must be accurately cited and verifiable, following the current Author Guidelines and APA 7th edition reference style.

3. Additional Requirements by Manuscript Type

Review studies: Systematic and scoping reviews should report search sources and dates, search strings or strategies, eligibility criteria, selection procedures, and synthesis methods; a study-selection diagram and established reporting guidance (such as PRISMA, where appropriate) are encouraged. Bibliometric manuscripts should identify the database, search strategy, record-cleaning procedures, software, and analytical indicators. A narrative discussion of sources without critical synthesis is insufficient.

Conceptual studies: The manuscript should present an explicit analytical procedure, defend its assumptions, engage fairly with competing perspectives, and generate a distinguishable theoretical contribution rather than merely summarising familiar concepts or religious-economic doctrines.

Applied and design-based studies: Descriptions of software features, screenshots, and implementation steps alone are insufficient. Authors should specify the economic or institutional problem, explain the design rationale, document evaluation with relevant users or performance indicators where applicable, and establish the contribution to digital entrepreneurship, enterprise development, Islamic finance, or other in-scope outcomes.

Policy-oriented empirical studies: Policy evaluation, institutional analysis, and regulatory studies may be submitted under Original Research or Conceptual and Theoretical Articles, depending on whether the principal contribution is original empirical evidence or a new analytical argument.

4. Manuscripts Normally Outside the Journal's Scope

JOVISHE does not ordinarily consider:

  • Manuscripts outside the journal's thematic and disciplinary scope or without a substantive economic contribution.
  • Unsubstantiated opinion pieces, promotional writing, journalistic reports, or descriptive compilations without scholarly analysis.
  • Technical system-development reports that present an application or prototype without a credible research design and evaluation.
  • Literature summaries lacking transparent source selection, critical integration, or an identifiable scholarly contribution.
  • Substantially redundant, previously published, simultaneously submitted, plagiarised, or otherwise ethically non-compliant work.

5. Editorial Classification and Peer Review

Authors should identify the most suitable manuscript category at submission. The Editorial Board may recommend reclassification during preliminary screening, without prejudging the editorial outcome. All scholarly manuscript categories listed above are subject to editorial assessment and the journal's established double-anonymous peer-review process, normally involving at least two qualified reviewers. Acceptance is based on relevance, originality, methodological quality, ethical compliance, and contribution to scholarship; no manuscript type is guaranteed acceptance.

All manuscript categories must comply with the same publication-ethics, authorship, conflict-of-interest, and originality requirements. Any future non-peer-reviewed content must be clearly labelled and governed by a separately disclosed editorial policy.
