Author Guidelines

Preparing rigorous, transparent, and original scholarship in Islamic economics, Islamic finance, ethical enterprise, and sustainable digital economies.

 

The Journal of Visionary Sharia Economy (JOVISHE) welcomes original and methodologically sound manuscripts that advance knowledge in Islamic economics and finance and their intersections with ethical business, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. Authors must ensure that their submissions fall within the journal's Focus and Scope and comply with the requirements below.

Submit through Makwa Foundation

All new manuscripts must first be registered using the Makwa Foundation submission form. This form supports preliminary administrative and editorial screening; it does not replace formal manuscript submission to JOVISHE's OJS platform. Authors whose manuscripts are cleared to proceed will receive instructions and journal system access for the formal submission stage. Submission or preliminary clearance does not guarantee peer-review acceptance or publication.

1. Manuscript Eligibility and Article Types

JOVISHE considers original empirical research, theoretically grounded studies, rigorous literature reviews, and policy analyses that offer a clear scholarly contribution. Quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, comparative, doctrinal/normative, and design-oriented research may be considered when the methods are appropriate to the research questions. Digital-platform or software-development studies must explain their substantive contribution to Islamic economic practice, ethical commerce, financial inclusion, or other areas within the journal's scope; a technical implementation alone is insufficient.

Submissions must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration by another journal. Conference-derived work must be substantially developed, appropriately disclosed, and compliant with prior publication and copyright requirements.

2. Language, Length, and File Preparation

Language Manuscripts may be written in academic English or standard Indonesian. English titles, abstracts, and keywords are required for discoverability; Indonesian-language papers should also include the corresponding Indonesian abstract and keywords where prescribed in the official JOVISHE template. Language must be grammatically accurate and internally consistent.
Manuscript length A concise manuscript of approximately 8–15 A4 pages, including references, tables, and figures, is recommended. Longer manuscripts may be considered when justified by methodological or analytical depth. Page count alone does not determine acceptance and does not create an automatic publication surcharge.
Document format Prepare the manuscript in Microsoft Word (.docx preferred), using the journal's current, JOVISHE-branded template. Apply the font, heading sizes, margins, spacing, and table specifications provided in that template. Do not use templates branded for other journals.
Anonymous review For the formal double-anonymous review stage, authors must follow editorial instructions on removing identifying details from the review manuscript and document properties. Author identities and affiliations should be supplied separately in the submission metadata or title-page file when requested.

Template notice: A current verified JOVISHE template link should be inserted by the editorial office. Legacy links naming JEMAST or other journals should not be reused.

3. Required Manuscript Structure

The manuscript must follow a coherent research narrative. The sections below apply to empirical research; well-justified adjustments may be made for conceptual, systematic review, or normative legal-economic studies.

01 Title and Authors
Use a precise, informative, and concise title reflecting the subject, approach, and distinctive contribution. Provide all authors' names (without academic titles), institutional affiliations, countries, and correspondence details in the appropriate submission fields. ORCID iDs are encouraged. Use the official template for title-page typography; the legacy specification is Book Antiqua, 15 pt, bold, centered.
02 Abstract (150–250 words)
Write a self-contained, informative abstract stating the research context or problem, objective, research design or analytical approach, data or materials, principal findings, and the contribution or implications. Report specific results where appropriate. Avoid citations, unexplained abbreviations, unsupported claims, and statements not substantiated by the manuscript.
03 Keywords (3–5)
Provide three to five distinctive, searchable keywords or short phrases aligned with the article's key constructs and disciplinary field. Avoid repeating the full title or using excessively broad descriptors. Keyword metadata must match the submission form.
04 Introduction
Establish the research context, significance, and problem; critically synthesize relevant and recent scholarship; demonstrate a specific gap, unresolved debate, or limitation; and state the research objective, questions or hypotheses, and expected scholarly contribution. Avoid merely listing previous studies. A focused introduction is preferable to a rigid paragraph count.
05 Literature Review / Theoretical Framework (where appropriate)
Define key concepts, theoretical propositions, and relevant Islamic economic principles, including maqāṣid al-sharīʿah or other frameworks when substantively applicable. Relate the framework directly to the research questions and analysis rather than adding ceremonial references.
06 Research Methods
Describe the design, setting and period, sampling or source selection, data collection instruments, measures or constructs, analytical procedures, and methodological justification in sufficient detail for evaluation or replication. Quantitative studies should report sampling, measures and statistical tests; qualitative studies should clarify participant/document selection, coding or interpretation and trustworthiness; reviews should specify search sources, eligibility criteria and synthesis procedures. Explain ethical approval or consent where applicable.
07 Results and Discussion
Present findings in a logical order, supported where appropriate by clearly labelled tables, figures, quotations, model estimates, or documentary evidence. Interpret—not merely restate—the findings in relation to the research questions, prior studies, theoretical framework, and their implications for Islamic economic scholarship or practice. A combined or separate Results and Discussion format may be used consistently.
08 Conclusion
Answer the research question directly, articulate the principal original contribution, and distinguish evidence-based theoretical, practical, or policy implications. Acknowledge material limitations and recommend meaningful future research where relevant. Do not merely repeat the abstract or introduce new results.
09 Declarations and References
Provide acknowledgments, funding information, conflicts of interest, ethics/consent statements, author contributions, and data availability as applicable and as requested during editorial processing. Close with a complete and accurately cross-checked reference list in APA 7th edition style.

4. References and Citation Style

Use the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition, consistently for in-text citations and the reference list. A substantive research article should ordinarily cite at least 20 relevant scholarly sources, with approximately 80% from peer-reviewed journal articles wherever suitable to the topic and research design. Prioritize high-quality, recent primary literature—particularly research published during the preceding five years—while retaining foundational works, authoritative primary documents, and classical sources where academically necessary. These expectations must not encourage irrelevant citation padding or the exclusion of essential older literature.

Every in-text citation must have a matching reference entry and vice versa. Provide valid DOIs in URL format (https://doi.org/...) where available; otherwise include persistent publisher or repository links when appropriate. Reference-management tools such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote are encouraged, but accurate referencing is the author's responsibility.

5. Tables, Figures, Equations, and Research Data

  • Tables: Number consecutively (Table 1, Table 2, etc.), place descriptive titles above each table, and identify units, abbreviations, and sources as needed.
  • Figures: Number consecutively (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.) and place captions below each figure. Submit legible, high-resolution graphics with permissions or attribution where required.
  • Equations: Typeset clearly, number equations referenced in the text, and define all variables and symbols at first use.
  • Data and reproducibility: Explain key data sources, instruments, and analytical steps. Where ethically and legally permissible, provide data and code availability statements or repository links. Do not disclose confidential participant information.
  • Terminology: Use consistent transliteration and define technical terms, Islamic legal or economic concepts, and abbreviations upon first use.

6. Research Integrity and Publication Ethics

All authors must meet appropriate authorship criteria and approve the submitted version and author order. The corresponding author is responsible for accurate metadata and communication with the editorial office. Disclose all relevant funding, financial and non-financial competing interests, and relevant permissions or ethics approval. Plagiarism, fabricated or falsified evidence, manipulated citations, undisclosed duplicate publication, and inappropriate authorship practices are not permitted.

Any use of generative AI tools that materially contributes to drafting, analysis, or image production must be transparently disclosed in accordance with the journal's applicable policy; AI tools may not be credited as authors. Authors remain fully accountable for accuracy, attribution, confidentiality, and the integrity of all submitted material.

Manuscripts undergo editorial screening and, when deemed suitable, double-anonymous peer review by at least two qualified reviewers, with additional reviewers invited when necessary. Final editorial decisions are based on scholarly quality, scope, originality, methodological soundness, and reviewer assessments. Publication is not guaranteed by submission, payment, or revisions alone.

7. Submission Procedure

Step 1 — Preliminary submission. Open Makwa Foundation Manuscript Submission; select JOVISHE as the target journal and provide the corresponding author's details, title, abstract, 3–5 keywords, references, relevant co-author details, and mandatory declarations.

Step 2 — Initial editorial assessment. The editorial office checks completeness, ethical declarations, template compliance, and alignment with JOVISHE's Focus and Scope. Manuscripts may be returned or declined at this stage.

Step 3 — Formal journal submission. Authors invited to proceed receive access instructions and formally submit to JOVISHE through the journal's OJS system, including the manuscript and any separately required files.

Step 4 — Peer review and editorial decision. Eligible manuscripts proceed through peer review, revision, and editorial evaluation. If accepted, publication follows copyediting, production, and the journal's regular issue schedule.

Publication charges, if any, are governed by the journal's separately published, current fee policy. Editorial decisions must remain independent of financial arrangements.

8. Submission Preparation Checklist

  • The manuscript is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration elsewhere.
  • All named authors have contributed appropriately, approved the submitted version, and agreed to the authorship order.
  • The research topic aligns with JOVISHE's Focus and Scope and articulates a clear contribution.
  • The manuscript follows the current JOVISHE template, is supplied in an editable document format, and contains complete, accurate metadata.
  • The abstract is informative and 150–250 words; the submission contains 3–5 keywords.
  • The introduction, research methods, findings, discussion, conclusion, and references are appropriately developed for the article type.
  • All cited sources are traceable, references follow APA 7th edition, and DOIs are supplied where available.
  • Tables, figures, equations, and any reused materials are labelled correctly and accompanied by necessary permissions.
  • Funding, conflicts of interest, ethical approval or consent, data availability, and material AI use are disclosed where applicable.
  • The file is prepared for double-anonymous review where required, and all declarations in the Makwa Foundation submission form are completed truthfully.
