Scholarly integrity & open access
Author-retained copyright, a non-exclusive right of first publication, and clear conditions for responsible reuse of scholarly works.
JOVISHE: Journal of Visionary Sharia Economy, published by Yayasan Lembaga Studi Makwa (Makwa Foundation), Indonesia, recognises authors as the primary holders of copyright in their original scholarly work. This Copyright Notice specifies the rights retained by authors, the permission granted to JOVISHE for first publication, and the conditions governing the distribution and reuse of published articles.
The policy is intended to be read alongside the journal's Open Access Statement and Licensing Terms. Copyright ownership, publishing permission, and the Creative Commons public licence serve related but distinct functions: they identify the rights holder, establish the journal's authority to publish, and define the permissions available to the public.
Copyright in scholarly articles accepted and published by JOVISHE remains with the author or authors, except where a different rights holder is lawfully identified and disclosed. Publication in JOVISHE does not, by itself, constitute an assignment or transfer of copyright to the journal or to Makwa Foundation.
The author-retained copyright statement applies to the scholarly article and its author-owned components. It does not imply that the authors own third-party photographs, illustrations, datasets, trademarks, or other content incorporated under separate permission or legal exceptions.
By agreeing to the publication of an accepted manuscript, authors grant JOVISHE: Journal of Visionary Sharia Economy the non-exclusive right of first publication. This permission enables the journal, through Makwa Foundation, to prepare, publish, display, distribute, and maintain the definitive published version of the article, together with its bibliographic metadata.
The right of first publication identifies JOVISHE as the journal of initial scholarly publication. It does not restrict the authors from reusing or distributing their work under lawful arrangements that remain compatible with the licence already granted to the public. JOVISHE should be acknowledged as the original publisher when the work is redistributed or republished elsewhere.
The journal may make article files and metadata available to scholarly indexing, DOI registration, archiving, and discovery services as necessary to support publication and discoverability. Such dissemination does not alter authors' underlying copyright ownership.
Articles published under the journal's open-access policy are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), unless a clearly marked component carries a different lawful rights statement. The licence is non-exclusive and allows worldwide reuse subject to its terms.
Users must not impose additional legal or technological restrictions that prevent others from exercising the rights granted by the licence. Licence permissions do not override applicable exceptions or limitations, nor do they necessarily cover rights of privacy, publicity, moral rights, patents, trademarks, or separately licensed third-party material.
The applicable licence is the official Creative Commons text, not an additional set of restrictions created by this journal notice. Readers are encouraged to consult both the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence summary and the full legal code.
Authors retain the ability to reuse their own text, data presentations, figures, and other content for which they hold the relevant rights, subject to ethical attribution, any applicable third-party restrictions, and the integrity of the scholarly record. Authors may incorporate their published material into teaching resources, future scholarly works, books, theses, and research communication activities.
Authors may enter into separate, additional non-exclusive arrangements for distribution of the published article, including through scholarly repositories or edited volumes, provided those arrangements do not conflict with the public CC BY-SA 4.0 licence or misrepresent the original publication.
JOVISHE permits and encourages responsible scholarly sharing before and after formal publication. Authors may place a working paper or preprint on a personal website, an institutional repository, or an appropriate preprint platform. Any public availability or prior dissemination of the submitted work should be disclosed to the editorial office where relevant to the originality and publication-history assessment.
Once the article has been published, authors are encouraged to deposit and share the version of record with a complete scholarly citation, a DOI or stable URL when assigned, acknowledgement of JOVISHE as the original publisher, and the applicable CC BY-SA 4.0 licence notice. JOVISHE does not impose a post-publication embargo on repository sharing of the licensed version of record.
Deposited versions should be identified accurately so that readers can distinguish preprints, accepted manuscripts, and the formally published version. Repository records should be updated where feasible to reflect any subsequent correction, expression of concern, or retraction.
Authors are responsible for verifying that they have the authority to reproduce, publish, and license all material included in their manuscript. Where figures, photographs, maps, instruments, illustrations, lengthy extracts, or other content belong to third parties, authors must obtain the permissions required for publication and accurately identify the copyright holder and any licence restrictions.
A third-party item is not automatically included within the article's CC BY-SA 4.0 licence merely because it appears in the publication. Material that is exempt from that licence must be clearly marked in its caption, credit line, supplementary information, or an equivalent prominent notice. Permissions may be unnecessary where a statutory copyright exception or limitation lawfully applies.
Authors must also respect informed consent, confidentiality, research-participant privacy, and contractual limitations affecting restricted datasets or institutional information, including banking and financial data.
The copyright holder and licence should be visible on each published article, in both PDF and HTML formats where available. JOVISHE recommends the following article-level notice, adapted to the actual publication year and authorship record:
For adaptations and other public reuse, users should identify the author(s), title, journal, year, DOI or stable link when available, and licence; they must also indicate whether the original material has been modified. Attribution must not falsely imply that the author, JOVISHE, or Makwa Foundation endorses the new use.
The copyright statement for peer-reviewed articles is distinct from rights associated with the JOVISHE website, journal title, trademarks, publisher logos, page design, software, and other organisational materials. Unless a separate notice expressly states otherwise, the publication licence for scholarly articles does not grant third parties rights to use journal branding or third-party intellectual property.
This distinction enables readers and indexing services to identify accurately which materials are licensed for reuse and who owns each class of content.
By submitting a manuscript and confirming the publishing terms for an accepted article, authors should ensure that the work is original, that all co-authors have approved its publication, that any third-party permissions are secured, and that materials carrying restrictions are clearly identified. Any funding, institutional, employment, or co-ownership arrangements that affect publication rights must be disclosed to the journal where relevant.
Unresolved copyright disputes, unauthorised reproduction, and significant undisclosed rights restrictions may require editorial clarification or referral under the journal's Publication Ethics, Research Misconduct, or Complaints and Appeals procedures. The journal should provide an opportunity for a fair response before taking proportionate action.
The public licence applies to the version of the work to which it was lawfully attached, and Creative Commons permissions are not ordinarily revocable while users comply with the licence. Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions do not silently erase the existence or publication history of an article.
If a rights error is discovered after publication, JOVISHE may publish a clarification, correction, or other appropriate notice, and may amend affected files or metadata with an auditable record. Any exceptional removal of protected or unlawful content should be handled under applicable law and the journal's post-publication integrity procedures.
The copyright notice and licence metadata should remain accurate and consistent across the article landing page, PDF, relevant repository records, and registration metadata where supported.
The submitting or corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have been informed of the copyright and licensing terms before an accepted manuscript is published. Confirmation of the terms should be captured through the journal's appropriate submission or production procedure, while the final published article should provide a visible licence and copyright notice.
Acceptance and payment of any author-side charge do not transfer article copyright to the journal. Submission, review, and publication charges are governed separately by the journal's Author Fees policy. The editorial decision remains independent of any copyright or fee arrangements.
Questions regarding copyright ownership, permissions, third-party content, repository deposits, or corrections to licence information may be addressed to the JOVISHE Editorial Office. Where an inquiry concerns authorship or potential misuse of a published article, the editorial office will refer the matter to the relevant publication-integrity policy.
The policy is informed by the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, DOAJ guidance on copyright and licensing, and the official terms of Creative Commons. Its provisions should be reflected consistently in published article files and public journal metadata.
