Authorship Criteria

JOVISHE   /   Research Integrity & Editorial Policies

Authorship Criteria

Recognising substantive scholarly contributions, establishing collective accountability, and safeguarding integrity throughout the publication process.

The Journal of Visionary Sharia Economy (JOVISHE) is committed to fair, transparent, and accountable authorship practices. Authorship represents both recognition of an individual's substantive intellectual contribution and acceptance of responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of published scholarship. This policy applies to all manuscript categories considered by the journal and is informed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations, Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance, and the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).

Core principle. Every listed author must satisfy all four authorship criteria below. Individuals who have contributed to the work but do not meet all four criteria should be appropriately acknowledged, with their consent, rather than included as honorary authors.

1. Criteria for Authorship

An individual qualifies for authorship only when all four of the following conditions are met:

CRITERION 01

Substantial intellectual contribution

Making a significant contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of research data.

CRITERION 02

Critical manuscript involvement

Drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content, rather than providing only routine editorial or administrative assistance.

CRITERION 03

Final approval

Reviewing and approving the final version of the manuscript that is to be published.

CRITERION 04

Accountability and integrity

Agreeing to be accountable for the work and to cooperate in resolving questions about the accuracy or integrity of any part of the research.

Researchers who make substantive intellectual contributions must be given a genuine opportunity to participate in drafting or critical revision and final approval; the criteria must not be used to exclude deserving contributors.

2. Contributions That Do Not Independently Establish Authorship

The following activities, when performed without meeting all four criteria, do not independently qualify a person for authorship:

  • Securing funding or providing access to research facilities or resources.
  • General supervision, institutional leadership, or administrative oversight.
  • Routine data collection or technical assistance without substantive intellectual involvement.
  • Language editing, proofreading, formatting, translation, or solely technical manuscript preparation.
  • Providing institutional status, professional seniority, or assistance with journal submission.

Such contributions may be recognised in an Acknowledgements section, describing the assistance provided. The corresponding author should obtain permission from each person named in the acknowledgements.

3. Author Contributions and the CRediT Taxonomy

JOVISHE requests an Author Contributions Statement identifying each author's substantive role. The journal encourages use of the CRediT taxonomy, including, as applicable, conceptualisation, methodology, software, validation, formal analysis, investigation, resources, data curation, writing – original draft, writing – review and editing, visualisation, supervision, project administration, and funding acquisition.

Illustrative contribution statement

Author A: Conceptualisation, Methodology, Formal Analysis, Writing – Original Draft. Author B: Investigation, Data Curation, Writing – Review & Editing. Author C: Supervision, Validation, Writing – Review & Editing. All authors reviewed and approved the final manuscript and accept accountability for the published work.

CRediT roles make contributions transparent but do not replace the four authorship criteria. The corresponding author must ensure that the statement accurately reflects the contributions of all authors.

4. Author Order, Affiliations, and Corresponding Author

Author order. The sequence of authors must be collectively agreed upon by all authors before submission and should reflect the research team's mutually accepted conventions. The editorial office does not determine author order or assign credit in place of the research team.

Names and affiliations. Authors must supply accurate full names, institutional affiliations associated with the research, and a valid email address. ORCID iDs are strongly encouraged to support unambiguous identification. Academic titles should not be included in the manuscript byline, consistent with the journal's Author Guidelines.

Corresponding author. One author must be designated to communicate with the journal, submit required declarations, coordinate revisions, and ensure that all co-authors receive editorial correspondence and approve the final version. This administrative role does not confer greater ownership of the work or diminish the responsibilities of other authors.

5. Changes to Authorship After Submission

Requests to add or remove authors, change the author sequence, or replace the corresponding author must be submitted before publication through a written explanation to the editorial office. The request must identify the reason for the change and include explicit written consent from all listed authors and from any person being added or removed.

The editorial office may pause evaluation or publication until the matter is resolved. A change in authorship is not automatic and will be assessed on documentary evidence and publication-integrity considerations. Following publication, substantiated changes may require a formal correction or other appropriate post-publication notice, preserving an accurate scholarly record.

6. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

JOVISHE does not tolerate gift or honorary authorship (adding someone who does not meet the criteria), guest authorship (including a prominent individual to improve perceived credibility), ghost authorship (omitting an eligible author or concealing substantive writing contributions), or the sale, purchase, or coercive exchange of authorship credit.

All authors must disclose relevant competing interests and funding sources, and must not submit fabricated contribution declarations or conceal individuals who made material contributions to the manuscript.

7. Use of Artificial Intelligence and Automated Tools

AI systems cannot be named as authors. Generative AI tools cannot provide final approval, accept legal and ethical accountability, or fulfil authorship obligations. Human authors remain responsible for all content, citations, data interpretation, and intellectual claims, including text or images produced with AI assistance.

Authors must disclose substantive use of generative AI in their submission documentation and in an appropriate part of the manuscript. Use for drafting or language assistance should be described in the acknowledgements or a dedicated AI-use statement; use in data processing, analysis, coding, or image production should be explained in the methods where relevant. Disclosures should identify the tool and describe its role sufficiently for editorial assessment.

Authors must verify AI-assisted output for accuracy, proper attribution, confidentiality, intellectual-property compliance, and potential bias. Undisclosed or misleading use may be considered a publication-integrity concern.

8. Authorship Disputes and Allegations

Authors should resolve questions concerning eligibility, order, and contributions collaboratively and as early as possible. Where agreement cannot be reached, the dispute should be referred to the relevant institution(s) or other competent bodies for investigation. The journal may request supporting documentation and suspend editorial handling while a substantive dispute remains unresolved.

JOVISHE will consider authorship concerns using relevant COPE guidance, ensure appropriate confidentiality, and take proportionate editorial action when reliable findings become available. The editorial office does not act as an institutional tribunal for determining ownership of research contributions.

9. Authorship Declaration at Submission

By submitting a manuscript to JOVISHE, the corresponding author confirms, on behalf of all co-authors, that:

  • All named authors satisfy the four authorship criteria and have agreed to their inclusion and order.
  • No eligible author has been omitted, and no ineligible author has been added.
  • All authors have reviewed and approved the submitted version and will approve the version accepted for publication.
  • The contribution statement, affiliations, funding information, and competing-interest disclosures are complete and accurate.
  • The manuscript is original, is not simultaneously under consideration elsewhere, and complies with the journal's research and publication ethics requirements.
  • Any relevant AI-assisted technologies have been accurately disclosed, and the authors accept full responsibility for their use.
