Language learning, especially in understanding folklore texts, has an important role in shaping the character and language skills of students in primary schools and madrasah ibtidaiyah. However, students' understanding of folktales is often still low due to uninteresting learning methods. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of the storytelling method in improving students' understanding of folklore at MIS Blang Rakal. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) with two cycles, which include planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 30 grade V students who were purposively selected. Data were collected through observation, interviews, comprehension tests, and documentation of learning activities, then analysed descriptively qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that the application of storytelling significantly improved students' understanding of folktales. Students become more active in learning, more easily remember the content of the story, and show improvement in speaking and critical thinking skills. The use of supporting media such as illustrations and varied voice expressions also contributed to the effectiveness of this method. Thus, storytelling proved to be an effective learning strategy in improving students' understanding of folktales. Educators are advised to develop more varied storytelling techniques to create a more engaging and interactive learning experience.
